The Korean War: A History

A review If one were to read just one book about the fierce and very destructive war that took place on the Korean peninsula 1950-1953, this rather short (268 pages counting the endnotes) 2010 effort by Bruce Cumings, the retired chairman of the department of history at the University of Chicago, would not be the one that I would recommend.  To the contrary, it would be just about the last book I would recommend if the reader were to go into the subject knowing very little.  What it would be especially good for, though, would be reinforcing the leftist prejudices that the typical American college student takes away from his or her experience in higher education these days, particularly if…

Richard Petty’s Hometown and the U.S. Military

The famous Petty stock-car-racing family is quite representative of the very American sport, generally, in that its members come from the small Piedmont North Carolina town of Randleman.  From Wikipedia we learn that, as of 2020, Randleman had a population of 4,595, but as late as 1980, only 2,156 people lived there.  Doubtless, this more than doubling of the population reflects the fact that it is becoming a bedroom community for the larger cities of Greensboro and High Point to its immediate north.  Just over three quarters of its residents are non-Hispanic whites. Actually, although Randleman is usually listed as Richard Petty’s hometown, he and the Petty family are from the much smaller community of Level Cross, just to the…

Deranged Court Historian, Douglas Brinkley, on Jan. 6

One might think that the remarks of the well-known historian, Counsel on Foreign Relations member, Douglas Brinkley, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the breach of the Capitol Building, ostensibly mainly by people protesting what they perceived to be the theft of the 2020 Presidential election, would be embarrassing to the other members of his profession.  To compare that relatively mild dust-up to Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and even the Holocaust has to strike any sensible person as complete lunacy.  We have noticed, though, that those who practice his trade in the United States, at least in our lifetime, are really not very much interested in anything so bothersome to them as the truth.  Apparently, it has been the…

Godfather of Soviet Containment Is Cancel Culture Victim

In early 2020, I sent an email to 14 members of the history faculty of my alma mater, Davidson College, including one emeritus professor, whose primary purpose was to call their attention to a recent article by Laurent Guyénot entitled, “Fifteen Years before Kennedy, Zionists Murdered Forrestal.”  I have no idea how it was generally received, because only the emeritus professor responded, and, curiously, he ignored the main subject and chose to take issue with my take on the U.S. Civil War as he deduced from my article, “Mencken and More on Lincoln’s Speech,” which I had alluded to in passing in the email. You can read about the episode in the beginning of my review article, “Life in the Confederate…

The French Revolution ‘Conspiracy Theories’

Throughout the 1790s ‘conspiracy theories’ probing what forces were responsible for the French Revolution abounded in England, continental Europe, and the US. They were put forth by intelligent and reputable authors. What did these theories and historical insights have to say? Why were they so strongly suppressed by the mass media of the era? Why are they still important (perhaps more than ever) today?

The Culture of Complaint

This video profiles the “executions” of three education industry workers’ careers to illustrate how the identity-based protests underlying today’s “culture of complaint” phenomenon has been in existence for centuries. A like-minded protest on false pretenses was used by the Pharisees and their followers to secure the most well-known public execution of all time.

Mask of Virtue

Over the course of many years George Soros has used philanthropy as a guise under which his panoply of front groups to use “social justice activism” against entire countries to enact “soft coup” regime change. Such tactics of late have been tied to the wave of rioting, violence and vandalism that has swept the US in the lead-up to the 2020 US presidential election. “O Mary … Defend [us] with your power against all enemies, and especially against those who hide their malice behind the mask of virtue.”-St. Maria Faustina Kowalska Memory Hole Blog Report is the official video series of http://memoryholeblog.org

Kavanaugh Stabbed Supporters, Nation in the Back over Vote

Looking back now at the great Presidential election theft of 2020, it becomes ever clearer that the best chance to bring it to a halt and reverse course was represented by the lawsuit of the state of Texas challenging the election result in the key swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin (summarized in the American Thinker here).  Texas was joined by 126 members of the U.S. Congress and 17 state attorneys general in an amicus brief.  The suit and the brief argue, I believe very persuasively, that authority granted by the Constitution to the state legislatures in choosing presidential electors was usurped by the executive branch in each of those states, creating novel voting systems that virtually invited…

Manufactured Covid Lockdowns? The Covid Tracking Project

MHB Report States across America are now declaring severe lockdowns in response to a regular stream of disturbing Covid statistics. Yet who’s behind then number-crunching? The terrifying figures are generated by the Covid Tracking Project, an obscure entity operated by a group of biotech entrepreneurs and young statistics novices, and housed at Apple Computer heiress Laurene Powell Jobs’ far-left Atlantic magazine.

Lords of Fake News and Election Fraud

MHB Report (December 8, 2020) Pioneer journalist and media critic George Seldes authored a book titled Lords of the Press over 80 years ago. With a handful of media conglomerates controlling most of what the US public sees and hears, the observation couldn’t be more important today. Where does the buck stop in major news media? The Boards of Directors of these companies are ultimately responsible for the multitude of false and misleading news and commentary masquerading as “journalism” over the past four years–a stream of calculated misinformation that has culminated in what may be one of the most corrupt presidential elections in US history.

Vince Foster’s College Goes Full Woke

I graduated from Davidson College in 1965.  President Bill Clinton’s deputy White House counsel, Vincent W. Foster, Jr., who died violently and mysteriously in 1993, graduated in 1967. My senior year there I was the secretary of the Young Democrats Club and Vince was a member.  At about the same height, we also matched up against one another in intramural basketball.  I had known that the college had changed quite a bit since our graduation, but developments in the past two years have come down on me like a ton of bricks.  Had Vince lived, I don’t think he would recognize his old college.  Unfortunately, from all I have seen lately, Davidson is not all that atypical of colleges and universities…

The Charlottesville Operation

(Editorial note: This in-depth article, which first appeared nearly a year ago on Dave Martin’s site is timely once again, since the media has been running a lot of pieces commemorating the first anniversary of this bogus event.  Also, listen to Dave’s interview from Kevin Barrett’s radio show.) It was May of 1970 and my wife and I, both graduate students at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, had joined hundreds of other people, most of whom were students, in an enormous march around Chapel Hill in protest of the shooting of demonstrators at Kent State University and incursion into Cambodia, expanding the Vietnam War. As we were marching toward Franklin Street, the main drag in the town,…
